Peret Reyes is currently the leading exponent of Catalan rumba roots, A Rumba Catalana living legend. Brother of Ramon Reyes “Ramonet” and godson of Peret “El Rei de la Rumba” Pubill Calaf. With eleven years old, Peret Reyes began his career with los Amaya with Agustí Abellán Malla “Chango”, since the late 60′s became part of the Peret’s oficial band as a palmero. Along with the great Peret, Peret Reyes toured the world popularizing Catalan rumba during the 70′s, from Eurovision 1974 in Brighton to the Olympic Games of Barcelona ’92. In the early 80s Peret Reyes founded the duo “Chipén” with Johnny Tarradellas and published “Volao” (Belter, 1984), “Gitanos de Gresca” (Horus, 1988), “Jonnhy & Peret” (Pdi, 1989) and “Veritat”(PDI Rumbasa, 1990) and collaborated with Gato Pérez in the album “Ten”(Picap, 1988). He also founded other groups: Salsa Gitana with Mayito Fernández, Estrelles de Gràcia and Papawa where he published two albums “Tiene La Llave” (Nuevos Medios 2007) y “Toca Madera” (ventilador 2010). Peret Reyes connects with the audience immediately and creates complicity essential for the flow of the rumba. “Al compás de la Mesa”, his latest project continues the work of recovering the authentic roots of Barcelona rumba.
